What is a Family Practice physician?
A Family Practice physician specializes in taking care of the patient and their entire family; this type of doctor is trained to provide medical care for patients of all age groups including infants, children, teenagers and seniors. After college, a Family Physician undergoes seven years of medical training. During this time the Family Physician learns to handle a vast array of medical issues including Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Geriatrics, and Dermatology. In addition to these specialized areas, the Family Physician also treats a variety of illnesses, everything ranging from the common cold to something more specific like diabetes or high blood pressure or high cholesterol. Dr. Chin and Dr. Royer enjoy Family Practice (or Family Medicine as it is sometimes called) because it allows them to treat a diverse group of patients with a diverse array of problems. Of course, when a Family Physician cannot provide a specific necessary service, that physician will refer a patient to a specialist for more specialized care.
Who can see a Family Physician?
Family Practice doctors typically treat patients of all age groups and all backgrounds.
What makes Family Care North special?
At Family Care North, you will always see a doctor. Dr. Chin and Dr. Royer actually spend time with their patients and do not use nurse practitioners or physician assistants to see their patients for them. Family Care North strives to provide a friendly atmosphere for care and we encourage our patients to forge long lasting relationships with the staff and physicians.
In addition, we know just how hard it can be at some offices to get an appointment when you're sick and you really need to see a doctor! With this in mind, we offer convenient "Walk-In-Sick Visits." If you're sick with cold or flu, sore throat, poison ivy, sinus infection or bladder infection you can come without an appointment to our walk-in hours (1-4PM Monday through Friday and 10AM-11:30 AM on most Saturdays). For all other complaints an appointment is necessary. "Walk-in" patients are "worked in" between our regularly scheduled patients so sometimes there is a wait to be seen. When you are a "walk-in" patient you will see either Dr. Royer or Dr. Chin, whichever one is able get to you first. Of course, if you want to minimize your waiting time, scheduling an appointment is always the best way to go.
